My Favorite Podcast

I've dreamed of becoming the kind of person who listens to podcasts for so long. I tried to get into Serial when that was all the rage, but I only listened to the first episode. Instead of switching on a podcast for background noise, I've always been more likely to default to Netflix. However, Luke listens to a lot of podcasts. Instead of a song turning on as soon as the Bluetooth connects in his car, it's a podcast. So he's introduced me to quite a few. Now I'm sure to grab my headphones before I leave the house when I'm walking somewhere or I'll listen to one while I'm in the kitchen.

My absolute favorite is The NPR Politics Podcast. It seems that now more than ever, news is biased and journalists are using emotionally charged rhetoric to really drive home their points. Last week I posted on Facebook about how even feel-good fluff stories have a political or emotional bias and appear to be written with the goal to leave the reader feeling negatively about someone rather than positively about the subject of the article. (For example: Trump donating $1 million in personal funds to Harvey relief. A Facebook friend shared an article that mentioned Trump's donation pledge in the first paragraph and spent the other two paragraphs totaling what the Obamas donated during their 8 years in office, as well as including a list of prominent Democrats who hadn't yet announced a donation or had announced a smaller donation.) All that to say, I've really been drawn more to NPR for news, especially political news. I've also been following this administration more closely than I have in the past. Maybe it's that I'm older, maybe it's that I'm out of the country, maybe it's my feelings toward the current administration. I want to know what's going on in Washington without the added villain across the aisle, whichever side that may be! On the podcast, they seem to have fun with it. They all seem to enjoy their jobs, they're knowledgable about breaking stories, and they seem to enjoy doing the podcast in addition to regular reporting for NPR. If you're someone who doesn't want their politics served with a hefty portion of manipulated emotion, check out this podcast.
