Texting While Driving

Texting While Driving

On Saturday, March 4th, I decided to do something I should have done a while ago. I decided to put my phone away while I drive.

Have you ever had one of those moments driving where you suddenly think, much to your horror to be sure, "How did I get here?" You just weren't paying attention for whatever reason and you frantically look at the light in your rearview mirror to make sure it was green when you went through it. I had one of those moments on Friday while on my way home from work and I'm ashamed to say it's because of my phone.

Starting that Saturday, I muted my phone and put it in my bag so I wouldn't be tempted. I don't even want to be tempted at a stop light because I'm guilty of not putting it down the second I hit the gas.  And I've been going strong ever since. That's over 3 weeks!

It's something I think about all the time. You hear the horror stories of people becoming disfigured, seriously injured, paralyzed, or even worse, being killed because they were texting while driving. You hear horror stories of distracted drivers killing others because they were paying attention to their phone instead. I don't want to become one of those stories. Period. I've been lucky too many times to count.

So my pledge is to continue to mute my phone, put it away, and keep my eyes on the road.
